Rental Terms

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

CDW refers to liability being relinquished if the vehicle you are renting is involved in a collision. The waiver generally excludes towing, glass and tyres. The waiver is limited to a certain amount and usually carries an excess, this means you would be liable to pay an amount – you will be made aware of this when checking the terms for the rental vehicle.

Vehicle Theft Waiver (VTW)

VTW reduces or removes or reduces your liability as the renter for the attempted theft of the vehicle. The waiver could carry an excess, which means you be liable to pay an amount – you will be made aware of this when checking the terms for the rental vehicle. Please read the terms carefully, because if there is a case for negligence, for example, the vehicle is stolen and you cannot locate the key, then you could be liable for the full cost to replace the vehicle. CarHireLower suggest removing the identifying tag that is generally on the keyring, separate from the keyring and putting it in a safe place.

Liability Insurance

In order to drive in any Country, there is a minimum amount of insurance required. The maximum is generally limited to €1,000,000.This covers your liability, as the renter, if there is any damage caused to other people’s property and/or other people. There may be an excess to pay - you will be made aware of this when checking the terms for the rental vehicle.

Airport Fee / Premium Location

At some locations fees are charged to cover the costs of services specific to that location.

VAT Local Tax

This refers to a tax applied on car rental by the government and the amount varies from Country to Country.

VLF / Road Fund Tax

This is when rental companies apply a charge to cover the cost of vehicle licensing.

Unlimited Mileage

Our rates already include unlimited mileage.

Breakdown Assistance

National breakdown assistance is something that all car rental agents have should you, as the renter, require it. Please enquire for full details when arriving at your local desk.
