Places to visit around Miami

Boasting such fantastic weather, it’s not surprising that most people visit Miami for its palm-tree lined beaches. Along with the fantastic range of parks, there are plenty of places to relax and enjoy the sun. You can do no better than the white sands of Miami Beach, an island off the Florida mainland. It’s composed of several costal towns, each with its own character. A great way to make sure you get to visit them is to use a car hire in Miami. If you’re feeling more energetic, Biscayne Bay, with its beautiful selection of coral reefs, is popular for snorkeling and scuba diving. It’s also home to the Cape Florida Lighthouse and Crandon Family Amusement Center.

The Atlantic Ocean is fantastic for a range of water-based activities, including sailing and fishing. You can also take a boat ride from Bayside Harbor. Alternatively, for a drier appreciation of the sea depths, many choose to visit the Miami Seaquarium. Bayfront Park, which contains an amphitheater, and Bicentennial Park, built to celebrate the USA’s bicentennial, are both centrally located.

Visitors to Miami can enjoy a multitude of museums and performing arts centers. The downtown area has a large number of cultural centers, including Coral Gables Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. In the United States the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is second largest only to New York City’s Lincoln Center. A stroll through Coral Gables is a good way to admire Miami’s architectural brilliance, and includes the Biltimore Hotel, built in the Mediterranean revival style. South Beach is home to the Art Deco historic district, in which even the Burger King is housed in an Art Deco building! Another top attraction is the Villa Vizcaya estate. Built from only Spanish and Italian materials, this district has a distinctly European air.

For another form of culture, Miami is also world renowned for its fashion industry. In fact, it’s host to some of the world’s most esteemed modeling agencies. There are regular shows throughout the year as well as major annual events like Miami Fashion Week.
