Most tourists come to Mallorca for the stunning beaches, the best of which can be found on the north and east coasts of the island. You may even be able to find your own little haven if you want to escape the crowds. There are also a number of beach resorts available, including Alcudia in the north and Palma Nova to the west.

A must-see is the capital of Mallorca, Palma. Located south of the island, it’s particularly well known for its stunning sunsets. Although it’s very multicultural, Palma still manages to retain that relaxed yet passionate Spanish feeling. The capital is a fantastic reflection of the historical influences which shaped the whole island. The main sights include La Seu, which is the city’s cathedral, and the Arab Baths, which are one of the few remainders of the city’s Moorish past. The old quarter is a fantastic place to find a tapas bar or café to relax in, a multitude of which line the streets, or to explore the fascinating selection of museums and galleries.

Although best known for its sandy beaches, Mallorca also contains the Sierra de Tramuntana, a mountain range in the northern region of the island. Puig Mayor, 1445m above sea level, is the tallest point on the island. A drive through this region is a must and car hire in Mallorca is easy to arrange. From Sa Calobra you can make your way through cliff tunnels until you reach the towering walls of Torrente de Pareis, a stunning limestone gorge. Then, take a drive through the island to explore the picturesque fishing villages, ancient monasteries and beautiful terrain. If you head into the center of the island, you’ll be greeted with a beautiful mass of olive groves and almond trees.

Another less well known beauty are the caves on the island. The Caves of Drach at Portocristo are particularly stunning. They consist of four chambers filled with amazing stalactites. One of the underground lakes is even used as a concert venue. Made infamous by writer George Sand’s ‘Winter in Mallorca’, Valldemossa is located on the northwest coast of the island.
