Frankfurt am Main, commonly known as Frankfurt, is one of the largest cities in Germany and located in the South West of the country but still quite central. Places to visit around Frankfurt

A trip up the tower provides a fantastic panorama of Frankfurt.

Cultural lovers can satisfy their passion with a stroll down Museumsufer, the most extensive mile of museums within Europe. For a deeper insight into the history of Frankfurt the Historisches Museum provides visitors with a look into the very beginnings of its beginnings. The Goethe Museum and Goethe-Haus focus not only on this writer’s life, but also contain artwork from between the Baroque and Romantic eras. Fans of Goethe should check out a production at Städtische Bühne. The Jews played an important role in the building of Frankfurt and the city was home to the second biggest Jewish population within Germany. The Jewish Museum pays homage to this importance, dating back to the 12th century. Frankfurt’s economical prowess is displayed in the Geldmuseum der Deutschen Bundesbank, which provides monetary artifacts along with explanations into policies throughout history.

Art lovers will not be disappointed by city’s European collection dating back to the 14th century, housed in the Städel Art Institute and Municipal Gallery. Alternatively, the Museum für Moderne Kunst is home to an amazing array of work from post-war artists, mainly American or German born. The more recent Museum Giersch Regionaler Kunst displays art from the Rhine-Main area and provides a beautiful selection of regional pieces.

To escape from the city, Frankfurt Zoo is viewed as one of the finest zoos in Europe. Over 150 years old, it contains a plethora of creatures from across the globe. For those desiring a more relaxing location the Palmengarten is a stunning botanical garden which contains not only hundreds of palm species but also an array of exotic birds. There’s even a boating lake for a truly tranquil afternoon.

Views of the city from the observation platform in the Main Tower are fantastic. Or, for a different perspective, why not car hire in Frankfurt and take a drive through the business district. More reminiscent of a landscape you’d find in the United States of America, this region is full of skyscrapers, including the tallest in Europe, the Commerzbank Tower, which stands at 259 meters.
