History of UK

Parts of the United Kingdom have been inhabited by humans for over 12,000 years. The island was originally settled by pre-Celtic immigrants from Europe who spread throughout the island and eventually to Ireland. There are many pre-historic sites in the United Kingdom, the most famous of which is Stonehenge, which was built over 4,000 years ago. Written history begins in the U.K. with the invasion of the Romans in 43 A.D. Although an outlying province, it was a hub of Roman activity, and many Roman ruins still exist, especially in the town of Bath.

As the Roman Empire fell, the country began to be invaded by the Norse and other Germanic tribes. One of these groups, the Angles, gave their name to “Angle-land,” or England. For six hundred years, these new English fought with the native Celts, pushing them to the extremities of Britain, while English kings consolidated power in the central part of the country. In 1066, William the Conqueror, a Frenchman from the Duchy of Normandy. This marked a long period of alternating rivalry and alliance with various parts of France. By the 17th century, at the death of Queen Elizabeth I, England had defeated the Spanish Armada in a great naval battle and had begun to explore the seas.

These explorations ultimately led to a worldwide empire — one on which the “sun never set.” At times, their empire included parts of the Americas, Africa, Australia, India and other parts of Asia and the Middle East. The English maintained their dominance of international affairs until the early part of the 20th century, when their influence was eclipsed by the United States.

Wales was incorporated in the kingdom in the mid-16th century; England united with Scotland in 1707; Ireland was incorporated into the kingdom in 1801, although it had been under English rule for some time. In 1921, Ireland became independent of the United Kingdom with the exception of Northern Ireland, which remains a part of the U.K. If you hire car in Uk to tour the many historical sites that have played a role in shaping the country.

The geography of UK

The United Kingdom has a gently varied geography, with lowlands in the southeast, but low mountains in much of the north and west. Several mountain ranges cover Wales and Scotland, as well as the upper part of England. Chalk underlies much of the southern part of the country; it is most visible in the White Cliffs of Dover, although it also shows through in Salisbury Plain. The country is drained by several rivers that help shape the country and its political geography, including the Severn, the Thames, the Wye and the Trent. Scotland is characterized by steep ridges, between which lie long, deep lakes, including Loch Ness. The coast of the United Kingdom is very rugged in many places, with cliffs and rocky headlands. Approximately 1,000 islands surround the mainland. Get a cheap carhire in Uk to make your way around this lovely nation.

Weather in UK

When tourists think of the weather in the U.K., rain and fog come to mind, but that characterization is a stereotype. It does rain quite a bit, but the rain usually doesn’t last very long, and the weather is generally temperature. Summers are warm but not hot, while winters are mild, with little snow. The exception to this is Scotland, which, in the Highlands, can have cold winters and heavy snow. The best rule of thumb when traveling in the United Kingdom is to take a sweater and an umbrella and always be prepared for the weather to change. Why not hire car in Uk to have the most versatility while you’re traveling. If nothing else, you’ll have shelter from the rain!
